Build a Water Pump in Africa

The water crisis in Africa is well-known. Severe shortages of clean and safe drinking water are causing irreversible damage across the continent. Millions lack access to reliable water sources, leading to health problems, sanitation issues, and economic challenges. This crisis disproportionately affects rural areas and marginalised communities, including those in poverty. By building water pumps in Africa, we can provide a platform for these communities to flourish and live healthier lives.

Reclaim Gift Aid

Gift Aid It!Add 25% more to your donation at no cost to you. A Gift Aid declaration allows Islamic Welfare Trust to claim tax back on eligible donations. It means that for every £1 you donate to Islamic Welfare Trust we can claim back 25p, at no extra cost to you.

By ticking the "Yes" box, I agree I would like Islamic Welfare Trust to reclaim the tax on all qualifying donations I have made, as well as any future donations, until I notify them otherwise. I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year I may be asked to pay any difference. I understand that Islamic Welfare Trust will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When Islamic Welfare Trust receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.

6 Intriguing Points Highlighting the Water Crisis in Africa

Scarce Access to Clean Water

Over 319 million people in sub-Saharan Africa lack access to clean and safe drinking water, leading to a constant struggle for basic survival.

Impact on Children

Every day, approximately 1,000 African children die due to waterborne diseases like cholera and diarrhoea, making clean water a matter of life and death.

Rural Disparities

Rural areas are disproportionately affected, with nearly 70% of Africa’s rural population lacking access to improved water sources, compared to 26% in urban areas.

Water Journeys by Women & Girls

Women and girls, particularly in rural areas, spend 40 billion hours per year collecting water, a task that could otherwise be used for education and income generation.

Economic Toll

The water crisis costs African countries an estimated 5% of their GDP annually. It is by far the biggest factor in the never-ending poverty cycle in Africa.

Environmental Impact

Africa contributes far less than other continents in greenhouse gas emissions, yet it is Africa which is feeling the brunt of its effects

These statistics and facts highlight the urgent need for efforts to address the water crisis in Africa, not only for humanitarian reasons but also for the continent’s sustainable development and future generations. Donate now and help build water pumps in Africa.

Providing Clean Water is an act of Sadaqah Jariyah

“When a person dies, all their deeds end except three: a continuing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah), beneficial knowledge and a child who prays for them.

[Muslim]

As building a water pump is an act of Sadaqah Jariyah, it is highly recommended to build a water pump in someone’s name like your parents, grandparents or any loved one alive or deceased. This is one way of showing your love for them.

Clean Water Truly Saves Lives

“…whoever saves a life it is as though he had saved the lives of all mankind”

(5:32)

The water crisis in Africa is a heart-wrenching tragedy, where the absence of clean water becomes a silent, relentless killer. Across this vast continent, countless lives are snuffed out quietly and painfully, not by wars or natural disasters, but by the cruel absence of something as fundamental as clean water. Building water projects for some communities in Africa and leaving millions without access to clean water is not an ideal solution; however, if water charities like us don’t build these projects, thousands more lives will be lost. Right now, Africa is in need of strong leadership that takes this matter seriously and tries to find a solution. After all, water is fundamental for life to exist and prosper. Donate a water pump in Africa and provide clean water access to a small community.
