What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When Islamic Welfare Trust receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.

What is the Islamic Charity Winter Emergency Appeal?

Many families can’t afford the basics for winter—like a warm coat or a blanket. Our Winter Emergency Appeal is here to change that. We give out heaters, blankets, warm clothes, and food for free to families who need them the most during the cold months.

What is included in the Winter Pack?

Each Winter Pack we hand out is packed with essential winter clothing for a family of four, including:

  • Jumpers
  • Jackets
  • Hats
  • Gloves
  • Socks

And in some places, we make sure there’s a blanket in there too.

How can you help?

Your donation could mean a family doesn’t have to feel the biting cold this winter. Winter – an Islamic Connection

Winter carries many Islamic blessings:

  • The short days make it easier to fast voluntarily.
  • The long nights give us extra time for tahajjud without wearing us out.

But, winter’s cold can be unforgiving without the right protection.

Umar ibn al-Khattab (May Allah be pleased with him) knew this well. He warned his people, “Winter is an adversary on the doorstep; arm yourselves with warm clothes. Cold is a foe that slips in fast but leaves at a crawl.”

For countless poor families, the arrival of winter is a daunting ordeal. Open your wardrobe, and you’ll likely find an array of jackets and jumpers. Contrast this with the reality for millions: one or two jumpers, at best, to fend off the cold all season. Some even face winter with nothing more than the worn, thin clothes of summer.

While many of us in better-off areas donate used clothes, the truth is, that it’s not enough. The need far outstrips what’s given.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

“Whoever relieves a believer’s distress of the distressful aspects of this world, Allah will rescue him from a difficulty of the difficulties of the Hereafter. Whoever alleviates [the situation of] one in dire straits who cannot repay his debt, Allah will alleviate his lot in both this world and in the Hereafter. Whoever conceals [the faults of] a Muslim, Allah

This is the message of Islam. We as Muslims do not help others because they are in need of our help rather we help them to seek Allah’s pleasure.

Alhamdulillah, our name clearly gives the message. We are an Islamic Charity aiming to help the Ummah in need. This is how our donation policy works:

  1. Your donation is your Amanah 
  2. We will spend your donation on the project you donated for.
  3. For every Emergency Appeal e.g. Gaza Emergency Appeal, Afghanistan Emergency Appeal, Yemen Emergency Appeal, Syria Crisis Appeal or Rohingya Crisis Appeal, we operate a 100% Donation Policy – no admin, no salary
  4. Zakat: 100% Zakat Policy
  5. 100% Transparency Policy – You can find the full details of our expenses by visiting the Charity Commission website.

For the rest of the donations, we promise to spend £9 out of every £10 donated to us. Insha’Allah
